June 12, 2009

Today, I am getting married.
.
We've been dating a year, now, and I am amazed at the depth and solidity of our relationship today.
.
We had planned to get married at the park on the lake where he proposed, however the storms have derailed those plans.
.
We had originally wanted to get married March 14, but his best friend went into the hospital that day and had emergency surgery the next morning. We thought about the 28th of March, but his brother died unexectedly that week, and his funeral was that weekend. His best friend rode through his ups and downs in ICU till he was sent home with hospice care. He passed on April 15, at home, with his family surrounding him.
.
There have been many other things, difficult things, going on at the same time. Finding a wedding date proved to be challenging, but we did, and it is today :).
.
His best friend's wife and sister offered to put together the small reception.
We're having the JP marry us with a few close friends and some family for the occasion. Our original plan was to get married at the park on the lake where he proposed last November, but the rain has been insistant and persistant, so we needed a change of venue.
.
His best friend's wife called today, "Why don't you just have it here?" "That would be great," I said, and she and her sister kicked into high speed. I have no idea what they're doing, but I know it will be awesome, and it will be from their heart.
.
Death ... and Life ... in the same home ... in the same place in the same home. Something just seems right about it all :).
.
We'll take a mini honeymoon for two nights as we need to get back to care for kids. Sometime later we'll get some more time alone to get away.
.
But for now, I will relish in the reality that this incredible man, who loves me with a love I have never known in my life, is choosing me for his bride ... for forever :). He's not simply choosing me, he's choosing my special needs daughter, and the yuck from my ex, and my tweenage daughter, and the yuck from my childhood. He's been questioned on this, but he has stood firm in his unconditional love for me. I don't understand that kind of love, but I am getting used to it ;)

Another reason ...

... why I love him so much!

In response to this post, Fiance emailed me these words:

Really cool honey. Love your writing. God put us right where we need to be. Too cool. Must give him much thanks and praise as he is always deserving of it and of course that is the main purpose God created us for. To honor and praise him as our Almighty God.
I bow to his Divine-ness and infinite wisdom and power.
Amen.

A God Day

registered the girls in their new schools yesterday. God is good :)

ran into a very chatty 7th grade language teacher at the middle school who was more than happy to answer many questions. and although Oldest is going into 6th grade and not 7th yet, this woman went a looong way in making her feel like she'll be okay here. she even recommended a book by Troy Aikman to help in the transition. very cool :).

the office staff was extremely helpful. there was a quite substantial document they needed from the divorce that my printer decided not to print, so she allowed me to email her the document, and she printed it off. she also willingly printed off another copy to take for me to take to my Youngest's school as they would need the same document.

after spending almost too long with Mrs. Chatty, we hurried over to the elementary school to register Youngest just before they closed for the day. i was focused on caring for my children and very thankful Oldest was feeling a little warmer and more confident about middle school. i came up to the office with a stack of papers they need. because Youngest is in special ed, they needed a copy of her most recent IEP from her most recent ARD, which was a couple weeks ago. that document is quite large. the office staff at the elementary school was also exceptionally helpful and accommodating.

this school district is well known and respected for their special ed program in the state causing many to move into the district just for their special ed program. so they've got their system and transfer process down cold. the way they structure special ed in the elementary schools is to group certain special needs in one school, and they will bus your child to whichever school necessary to ensure the best resources for their particular needs. i was told not to try to find a house according to a specific school b/c they could change things up or that may not be the exact right place after she gets in there. so we focused more on the general area and group of schools rather than trying to find one, specific school.

the assistant principal spent a good amount of time talking with me yesterday. i shared with her the official diagnoses they have given Youngest along with some more information. the ap told me that THIS school is the one that focuses on ALL four of Youngest's special needs! their diagnostician and resource teacher and staff are not only well aware of her needs, but they are also well trained and capable of meeting her where she is. i was blown away by the grace and mercy and protection of God. not only that, but this school is 300 students smaller than our previous school, and since they are smaller, they are able to give more attention to specific children and their needs.

God ... is good :)

this has been a week of fruit-basket-turnover as almost all our plans have been turned inside out and shaken up. and now, since the rain is continuing from last night, we may need to consider a change in location for our little wedding ... the quaint, tucked-away, park at the lake may be too muddy ;). a bunch of kids ... a muddy park on the lake ... and 99 degree temps ... ye-ah ... ummm ... hummm ;)

i have no doubt God already has this worked out. He has done amazing things already, and i know He's not done yet :)

last few days

niece's graduation was wonderful ... it was the first high school (or college) graduation my girls have seen, and they thought it was VERY cool :)

really enjoyed seeing my brother again ... meeting his 'wife' ... getting to know his daughter a little (she's forteen and haven't seen her since she was a baby).

my mom has lost 80 pounds since she left my dad, and dyed her hair blonde ... she wore a sundress with a low v-neck and was oozing cleavage all over the place (amazing what a 64 year-old woman will do).

my brother bragged about the drugs my mom found many years ago when she cleaned out the garage ... the ones he had for gonorrhea ... my brother bragged about the 200 or so women he's 'done.' brother called wife 'big sh*t' and daughter 'little sh*t' ... they thought that was funny.

my niece who graduated recently began dating this wonderful young man ... REALLY liked him.

first time ALL cousins from my side have been together ... got lots of pics.

got some pics of my three siblings and myself.

got some pics of the whole family together, as it is today.

my family met fiance ... everyone fell in love with him :)

crazy packing ... will move stuff first thing wednesday morning.

get married friday evening.

life is good ... even from the midst of this tornado we're caught up in till the wedding!
